All surfaces stain. Some, like polished granite, are less susceptible. Given time --sometimes just a matter of seconds, as in the case of hot cooking oil -- liquid will find its way into even the densest unprotected surface. Detergents won’t be able to get the stain out. They operate on the surface, while the staining matter has soaked in. In fact, the detergent itself may soak in after awhile, compounding the stain. What’s required is a poultice cleaner, such as Stand Off® Oil & Grease Stain Remover. You mix a dry clay powder and a liquid additive into a paste. Trowel the paste onto the stain and leave it for 12 to 24 hours. In that time, the poultice actually sucks the stain out of the granite.As you scrape away the poultice, so goes the stain. The poultice will take off waxes and finishes, too. Those have to be replaced. Once clean,you can make your granite stain-resistant so that detergents CAN clean spills. Breathable Stand Off® SLX100 Water & Oil Repellent keeps spilled liquid on the granite surface. You can clean it up before it has a chance to soak in to the stone. SLX100 won’t affect the stone’s natural color or texture.
