Research & Development Chemist - Hard Surface Cleaners


Job Summary:  To develop and evaluate new chemical products and processes to clean, protect and maintain building surfaces. To reformulate existing products to accommodate regulatory, financial and business climate changes. 


Responsibilities:  Coordinate activities with research & development laboratory technicians and other lab team members to accomplish the goals of product development.

  • Coordinate and manage outside laboratory testing and field-testing of developmental products.
  • Design testing protocols and coordinate in-house and outside testing related to research & development and project testing projects.
  • Prepare presentations and formal reports on product performance and project results.
  • Provide technical support to inside sales, customer care and outside sales personnel.
  • Assist production and quality control personnel as required for product scale-up, production trouble-shooting, and batch adjustments.


Experience:  At least three years recent chemical and product development experience in the formulation and manufacture of hard surface cleaners is preferred. Previous industrial laboratory experience is highly desirable. Knowledge of VOC regulations.


Education:  B.A. or B.S. or higher degree in chemistry or similar discipline. Formal education and/or prior experience in one or more of the following a plus:

  • Cleaner chemistry
  • Building materials chemistry


Skills:  Must have good understanding of basic chemical concepts. Must have good organizational skills. Must have good written and communication skills. Must have good teaching, training and leadership skills. Must have good management and administrative skills.
